The Memorandum on Energy between Turkmenistan, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was signed within the framework of the ceremony of the launch of the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, on December 13 2015 in the Mary province of Turkmenistan.
The Memorandum was signed by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and the Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif.
The length of the new gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India will exceed 1,800 km. it takes the start of the super-giant gas field Galkynysh in Mary province, which will become the resource base for the new gas artery. The third phase of development of this great gas field reserves was also launched.
At the launch ceremony the first juncture of the TAPI gas transport was welded. The high-level participants of the ceremony, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and the Vice-President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari, put their signatures on the first pipe.
Construction of TAPI gas pipeline is another effective step in the implementation of Turkmenistan’s energy strategy, an important aspect of which is the formation of the modern architecture of global energy security, including through the establishment of multi-vector system of transportation of energy resources of Turkmenistan to world markets.
