In Belek of Balkan province a ceremony of commissioning of the East-West gas pipeline was held, which linked the largest gas fields in Turkmenistan into a single gas transportation system. During the opening ceremony, the President of Turkmenistan turned the valve of the East-West gas pipeline, which streamed the first cubic meters of natural gas. In memory of the remarkable event the Head of State left a note on the pipeline surface.
New gas pipeline with length of 733 km and a capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of fuel per year was laid from the gas compressor station “Shatlyk” in Mary province to the gas compressor station “Belek” in the Caspian region.
The value of the gas pipeline “East-West” goes beyond the national framework, this project is designed to support international cooperation in the energy sector, given that the borders of supply of Turkmen hydrocarbon resources in the long term join the new regions and areas. The pipeline will allow to stream significant amounts of gas from the Country’s largest export points to existing and prospective directions of supplies.
Turkmenistan, with its huge reserves of hydrocarbons, is actively working on diversifying its foreign supply markets. In recent years, transnational gas pipeline to China has been built. The second pipeline to Iran was also successfully implemented. Recently, on 13 December in Mary province Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline was launched at the super-giant field “Galkynysh”.
