Transport Business Forum was held in “Yyldyz” hotel of Turkmen capital under the events timed to the Global Sustainable Transport Conference. Business meeting was aimed at intensification of the cooperation in transport sphere, consolidation of efforts in realization of perspective investment projects, which are summoned to make closer the countries and peoples, bring quality of life of the regions of the planet to new level.
Business forum gathered heads and representatives of profile agencies and structures of the UN, large international organizations and banks, which are involved in implementation of large-scale projects in transport sphere as well as in elaboration of global rules of cooperation and development of transport systems. Representatives of well-known international logistics, construction and technology companies, having big experience in development of transport sphere and number of elative efficient innovative means, took part in the meeting.
Opening the forum, the UN Under Secretary-General Gyan Chandra Acharya mentioned the importance of transport routes of the planet for the development of countries, improvement of quality of life of population and economic growth and highlighted that high level business meeting in Turkmen capital would become important step in consolidation of efforts of the world community in this direction.
Top managers of leading international organizations, aimed at improvement of cooperation in transport, logistics and big investment projects, made speeches during plenary session. There were Mr Mahmoud Mohieldin, the Senior Vice-President for 2030 Development and the UN Relations and Partnership of the World Bank Group, Mr Jean Todt, the President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), Mr Umberto de Pretto, the President of International Road Transport Union (IRU), Dr. Fang Liu, the Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) among them.
The work of the business forum was dedicated to such subjects as realization of the UN initiatives for sustainable development in the planet under the strategy until 2030, development of cargo and passenger automobile transport, importance of transit and transport corridors for development of economic growth and increase of commercial turnover.
Financial efficiency of wide implementation of the concept of sustainable transport, importance of modern technologies in provision of traffic security and energy efficiency of the branch, development of global and logistic systems, which open large perspective, were in the list of topics for discussion.
Special attention was paid to constructive efforts of Turkmenistan in this sphere, large-scale projects initiated by our country and having great importance for development of transport systems of the continent. There are railroad Kazakhstan – Turkmenistan – Iran in “North – South” direction, put into operation of new Ashagbat International Airport, construction of railway and automobile bridges Turkmenabat – Farab across the Amudarya River, Ashgabat – Turkmenbashy highway and International Sea Port in Turkmenbashy among them.
Construction of the first stage of Asian International Transport Corridor, Atamyrat – Ymamnazar (Turkmenistan) – Akina (Islamic Republic of Afghanistan) section, which has been opened on November 28, is another milestone in the history of domestic transport sphere. Construction of this part of International railway by Turkmen specialists allows assessing the scale of activity of Turkmenistan in the world transport system.
The Global Sustainable Transport Conference, held at the Trade and Industrial Chamber and in “Mizan” Business-centre has also completed its work.
The work of sectional sessions was dedicated to the role and forms of public transport in the XXI century, importance of the energy in development of transport sphere, discussion of practical measures for establishment of stable network of combined transport corridors, investments of large logistic projects for the accounts of internal resources of the countries and international cooperation, government and private sectors partnership.
Numbers of documents were signed during the Conference. Thus, Turkmenistan joined the Intergovernmental Agreement Trans-Asian Railway Network, the Intergovernmental Agreements on the Asian Highway Network, the Intergovernmental Agreement on Dry Ports, the International Convention on the Harmonization of Frontier Controls of Goods.
