Today the textile industry of Turkmenistan is one of the leading export-oriented branches of the national economy. At present, it is presented by large textile complexes, cotton-spinning and weaving mills, garment, leather and foot-wear factories, enterprises of silk, wool and knitted goods sector, which are supplied with up-to-date technology.
Dozens of modern textile factories have been built in the years of independence. It has enabled to increase processing volumes of ginned cotton produced in the country. These contemporary textile businesses, which have complete production cycle (starting from the processing of cotton-fiber to ready-made production), are equipped with the advanced technologies of European countries and Japan.
As of today contemporary machinery of leading world companies such as «Rieter» (Switzerland), «Trutzschler», «Schlafhorst», «Zinser», «Terrot» (Germany), «Muratec», «Tsudakoma» (Japan), «Marzoli», «Somet», «Vamatex» (Italy), «Picanol» (Belgium) and others are installed at textile enterprises.
Alongside with the implementation of the newest technology, primary attention is paid to issues on quality control of turnout and its compliance with the requirements of environmental safety. Production of such enterprises as «Turkmenbashy Textile Complex», «Turkmenbashy Jeans Complex» and «Serdar» cotton-spinning mill in Kahka district won international recognition and was awarded ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certificates. Moreover, WRAP «Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production» and OHSAS 18001 «Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems» are widely applied in a number of enterprises. «Oerlikon Schlahorst» company presented the Abadan cotton-spinning mill with «Belcoro» international certificate for high quality of produced cotton yarn.
In general, according to Ministry of textile industry of Turkmenistan 70- 80% of the whole turnout is exported to foreign countries as USA, Canada, Germany, England, Russia, Italy, Turkey, China and many others. Such well- known international companies as «IKEA», «Puma», «Bershka», «Nautika», «Sara Lee», «Casual WeaR», «Wal-Mart», «Miss Erica», «Vespolino», «JC Penney» and others are among the main customers and buyers.
Large cotton-spinning mills in Turkmenabat, Seydi, Dashoguz, Geokdepe, Abadan district of the capital and textile complex in Ruhabat district of Ashgabat city have been recently put into operation. At present, another cotton-spinning factory is under construction in Koneurgench district of Dashoguz province.
Actively integrating into world economic space, Turkmenistan has determined the maximum usage of large resource potential and possibilities of textile sector, further development of all its directions aimed at producing high quality output meeting international standards as a foreground task. This task is successfully implemented in the frameworks of comprehensive program of the sector development, which provides for full modernization and diversification of the branch’s infrastructure, creation of high grade and ecologically safe manufacture on raw cotton processing in all regions, where the raw material, traditional for home textile production, is grown. And today, the industry includes tens of textile enterprises provided with state-of-the-art equipment, as well as full cycle complexes, which satisfy not only increasing demand of domestic, but also international market competing with the leaders of world textile business.
Nowadays, leading foreign companies show their great interest in textile goods of Turkmenistan.
